Volunteer to Share Your Love

Volunteers have a special place in the Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital family. Their warm smiles and compassionate presence make all the difference for worried patients and families, and they provide invaluable support for hospital staff.

We are so thankful to all our volunteers for the many ways they embody the Caring Tradition and keep us connected to our community.

We welcome community members aged 18 and up to join our family of hospital volunteers in a wide variety of roles, all of which are carefully designed to meet strict health and safety measures. Safety is our top priority for all volunteers.

Volunteers will be asked to complete a brief online application and criminal background check. Most volunteer shifts are 3-4 hours weekly, and we prefer a commitment of at least 75 hours annually. We will provide a thorough introduction and hospital orientation to prepare all prospective volunteers for their position. Thank you!
