Haden Institute for nursing excellence & innovation

Established in 2013 in honor of Jim Haden (President and CEO of SMJH 1993-2014), the Institute supports our vision of nursing leadership, superior clinical outcomes, and exemplary patient care.  Evidence demonstrating the relationship between advanced education and improved patient outcomes is clear.  Our goal is for at least 80% of all SMJH registered nurses to have a 4-year college degree, and towards this end, we have funded scholarships for more than 180 nurses.  Continued philanthropic support will ensure that the Haden Nursing Institute will further advance nursing excellence through education and innovative programs including:

  • Nursing Scholarships
  • Specialty Certification and Re-Certification
  • Loan forgiveness for recruitment and retention
  • Advanced educational programs, including Advanced Nurse Practitioners degress
  • Research and Evidence Based Practice Fellowships
  • Nurse Residency Programs for new graduates
  • Nurse Resiliency Programs to promote personal wellness and health

Philanthropic Need:

  • $1,000,000 in annual support
  • $1.7 million (of $6 million goal) in endowment support (named giving opportunities are available)
