The Rucker Memorial Society

A Legacy of Giving

The Martha Jefferson Hospital Foundation established the Rucker Memorial Society to recognize and honor those who have chosen to remember Martha Jefferson in their estate plans. Their legacy of support allows the Hospital to meet our high expectations for clinical quality and personal health care. In the 1930s,  William James and Sally Woods Rucker left a significant portion of their estate to Martha Jefferson Hospital.

Make a Commitment. Through a will, trust, or retirement plan, you can make gifts to ensure the future of Martha Jefferson Hospital, often greater in size than you can imagine during your lifetime. You may use a bequest in your will to direct a gift to Martha Jefferson Hospital in several ways: percentage of value, property, residuary estate, differed, or contingent. Your estate planner can help you choose an option. For more information, see Ways to Give.

Becoming a Member

Membership in the Society will be extended to supporters of the Martha Jefferson Hospital Foundation who arrange a bequest or other planned gift in support of the Hospital. The size of the gift is not a consideration in membership, and there are no other obligations or requirements.

  • Is it possible for my gift to be anonymous?
    • Certainly. The Martha Jefferson Hospital Foundation is dedicated to preserving the confidentiality of individual donor gift plans. Your name will be listed on the Society plaque at the Hospital only with your explicit permission.
  • What if I change my estate plan?
    • The Martha Jefferson Hospital Foundation recognizes and accepts that any planned gift may change in the future. Membership in the Society recognizes and expresses appreciation for your current gift plan.
  • Is it necessary to share estate-planning documents with the Martha Jefferson Hospital Foundation?
    • While it is helpful for the Foundation to have a copy of the information from your estate plan that indicates a future benefit to the Hospital, membership and recognition are provided based upon your completion of a simple and confidential reply card. Such documentation can help the Hospital to maximize the benefits received from your gift and will help to ensure that your gift is used exactly as you intended. However, documentation is not a requirement of membership and recognition.
