Martha Jefferson 14th Annual 8K Run and 4K Walk ~ March 13, 2010 - A Huge Success!

The Martha Jefferson Hospital's 8K Run and 4K Walk celebrated its 14th year on March 13, 2010, attracting well over 950 participants.  Each year, the proceeds benefit an area of need at the hospital. This year, the beneficiary will be the Martha Jefferson Community Services Outreach programs.  Designed to promote wellness and a healthy lifestyle, these programs include First Saturday's Blood Pressure Checks, Supermarket Smarts Classes, Diabetes Education Programs and Health Screenings for adults and school age children, just to name a few.

Martha Jefferson launched a "Going Green" campaign in 2009, in which participants contributed an abundance of nonperishable food items and in return MJH Registered Dietitians gave out a free reusable grocery shopping bag along with tips for healthy eating on a budget and money saving recipes.  The "Going Green" campaign continued to be a part of this year's race. Donations supported the Martha Jefferson Hospital 16th Annual Food Drive which benefits the Thomas Jefferson Area Food Bank.

Prizes: A Jefferson Cup was awarded to each of the 8K top three male and top three female finishers. See 2010 Race Results listed to the right. Walkers were entered in a drawing to receive an ane hour massage from The Spa at ACAC. The top three runners in each age group were also recognized. All participants were placed in the Grand Prize drawing for an ACAC Full-Facility Family 1-Year Membership.
